Actions are commands which let you and other users appear as you are
"doing" things. There are three types of actions: Regular actions, TalkTypes,
and General Actions (GAs).
Regular actions are the most common. You issue a one word command
describing what you want to do, and you will appear to be doing it. For
example, issuing the command SLAP may produce the following output:
John Doe is slapping himself in the face!
This text is sent to all users who have actions enabled (see ACTION ON and
ACTION OFF command help screens). Of course, John Doe would be replaced with
your name, and himself would replaced with herself if you are female.
You can also "do" an action to somebody. For example, issuing the command
SLAP JOE BLOW may produce the following output:
John Doe is slapping Joe Blow in the face!
Again, John Doe is replaced with your name. Plus, to drive the point home,
Joe Blow would see the word you instead of his name, so there is no mistake
that he is being slapped!
You can do an action privately to another user by appending the word
SECRETLY (or the short form /S) after the command, as in SLAP JOE BLOW
SECRETLY. This command might show the following output, to Joe Blow only:
John Doe is slapping you in the face...secretly!
Note that you usually do not have to type the user's full name to do an
action "to" that user. Just enough letters to distinguish that user's name
from all of the other user's names will do. Also note that a user may have his
or her actions turned off, and may not receive actions, even if they are "done
to" them.
Talktypes are similar to actions. When you hear the term "actions" on its
own in the TOP help screens, you can usually include talktypes in the
definition. In fact, when a talktype is used on its own, it functions exactly
like an action. For example, the command YELL may produce the following:
John Doe is yelling at the top of his lungs!
Once again, John Doe is your name, and his is replaced with her if you are
female.
When a talktype command is used with additional text, it makes it appear as
if you are saying the text in a different way. For example, the command "YELL
I _HATE_ Mondays!!!" may produce the following output:
From John Doe, at the top of his lungs: I _HATE_ Mondays!!!
You can get a list of actions and talktypes by using the ACTION LIST
command.
Some actions or talktypes may also have pictures in them!
The third type of actions, General Actions (GAs), are slightly different.
These are actions which are composed by a user spontaneously. Odds are that if
you cannot find a command to perform a certain action, the user used a GA
instead. You can get more information on GAs by typing one of these commands:

HELP GA'S
You are encouraged to make plentiful use of actions, talktypes, and GAs.
They really make the chat come alive!
